En Ingles, Por Favor

Now Obama is saying that he doesn't understand why it's a big deal for so many Americans that we have an English only society. And then he goes on to prove that he doesn't get it. He talks about going to other countries, and people from other countries coming here... on vacation. He says that we don't need to worry, that people who come here will learn English... I guess he forgot to tell them that, because there are a lot of the illegal variety who don't seem to have gotten the message. And a lot of there kids, who may have citizenship for one reason or another, who don't bother to learn English because it's not important to their parents.

The thing is that it's not about us not liking other languages. It's not even really about convenience, although that is part of it. It's really about the fact that societies that do not have an official language, and fall into having multiple languages, officially or not, end up tearing themselves apart. It really is that simple. I don't care what language someone speaks at home, it really doesn't matter to me, but they need to be able to communicate in English if they want to live in the United States. It's good for them, and it's good for the country. It is very hard for someone to achieve great success here if they can't speak English, it really is that simple. Of course, that's probably why the Democrats don't want to make an English only policy, that way the can ensure that there will always be that ultra low, down and out class so that they will always have a poster victim to "represent."
