Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Atheism or Anti-Theism?

Psalm 14:1a "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God."

Is it just me or do many Atheists today seem to be pretty angry about people believing in God? It seems to me that pure Atheism would manifest itself in apathy toward religion, rather than hostility. I could see an Atheist getting upset when someone tries to share Faith with them, but other than that, is there any reason why they should care?

I propose the idea that there can be no such thing as a militant Atheist. Simply believing that God does not exist carries with it no compulsion to convince others of that point. Basically, it should be difficult to distinguish an Atheist from an Agnostic, because both should be pretty apathetic about the whole thing.

However, when someone does everything they can to discourage others from believing in God, or arguing against religion of any kind, they are anti-theistic, that is to say, they are against God. So, either they hate God, or they are driven by some force to be against God.

You see, for a Christian, and, to varying degrees, other religions, there is a driving need to convince people of their beliefs, because there is a reason why it makes a difference in your life. For Christians of course, we want people to find Salvation in Jesus Christ, but what does the Atheist gain by getting people not to believe? I would suggest nothing. The anti-theist on the other hand would gain a sense of satisfaction because they actually want to harm God, or those who believe in Him.

There are many good reasons to believe in God, and, for those of us who do, there is a great deal of importance in convincing other people of the Truth of our claims. For the Atheist though, what do they have to gain?

Atheism is a lack of belief. However, many atheists are antitheists. They believe

1) Atheism
2) Religion is dangerous
3) They have to do something.

Antitheists aren't against God- they are against these people-

Well, let's be honest, pretty much all of us are against these people. Just because you don't like what some people do, supposedly, in God's name isn't a reflection on God. They truly hate the very idea of God, which means that they are against God.

There is a big differance between not beliving in God, and hating the very idea of God. Even if you don't beleive in God and feel the need to fight against the actions of those who use Him as an excuse to carry out their own wickedness, doesn't mean that one must fight against God Himself, or try to stop other from having Faith.

The "new atheists" are perfect examples of what the Bible tells us about approaching the end times. People's hearts will grow cold. What could be colder than hating people because they believe in God? Where's the tolerance?

The fact is (like one non-believing commenter at my blog) they think that what we believe will negatively affect them. Therefore, they must "stop us" from practicing our faith and being a positive (to them - it's negative) influence in the world.

They are so deceived by Satan that they think THEY are good and WE are evil!

Woe to them who call evil, good and good - evil!

Isa 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
