God also says that you have not because you ask not. He desires that we ask specifically for something and I don't think it hurts to have other people pray for your needs.

The point isn't that we shouldn't pray for things, or enlist others to do so, of course we should. The point is that the situation, the prayers, and answers are all about God and not about us, and all the Glory belongs to Him, and not to us for being wise enough to pray to Him.
